Potomac Heritage Trail 10 July, 2010 (11 miles): 10 Jul, 2010 (10 miles)

Saturday morning was a washout. It was gloomy and raining. Around noon, however, the roads were dry, the temperature was in the 70s and a cool breeze was blowing. We set out on a short walk down Wilson Blvd. At Key Bridge, we thought why not take the Potomac Heritage trail and extend our walk. The cool breeze was so refreshing that we could not help it. So we took the Mt. Vernon Trail, crossed the bridge over GW Parkway and joined the Potomac Heritage trail. We headed north to Chain Bridge. This is a beautiful, but tricky path. Close to Chain Bridge you have to hop over boulders and we were quite exhausted. Moreover, we had promised Nan and Clark that we would meet for pizza at the newly opened Pupatella (A fantastic Neopolitan Pizza place on Wilson Blvd. The best pizza in town!). So we called them to postpone the pizza meeting. They graciously agreed. We had another 3.5 miles to go before we could get home. Once on Chain Bridge we found another path home via Military Road to N. Vermont St. to Glebe and home. It was a fantastic hike of nearly 11 miles and was topped with great company and an excellent pizza!
